What began as a response to food insecurity had grown into a network of programs serving families throughout Montgomery County, but those resources remained spread across multiple locations. The Well Center presented an opportunity to bring them together in a permanent home built around a two-generation model, connecting early childhood education with family support, entrepreneurship, economic opportunity, and community programming. The 11,750-square-foot facility was envisioned as a welcoming place where children and parents could access resources and opportunities under one roof.
The existing commercial space was reimagined around the Center’s diverse users, with community and family-support programs at the front and eight secure childcare classrooms occupying approximately 60 percent of the facility. The project extended outdoors with a new accessible ramp and the conversion of nine parking spaces into a dedicated playground. Significant infrastructure needs and budget pressures required close coordination throughout construction, including nighttime work within occupied spaces below and a value-engineering effort that identified approximately $370,000 in savings. The completed Center preserves the original vision while creating a flexible, welcoming community resource designed to serve children and families together.

“The team from Pizzano were very engaged with our sustainability values and went to great lengths to help us find ways to reuse and recycle as much as possible.”
